Jane Esau, 4-H Program View other Gage County News Columns & News Letters: National Shooting Sports InvitationalNebraska is hosting the 2008 National 4-H Invitational Shooting Sports Match in Grand Island, June 23-26. This event will involve 4-H youth from across the nation competing in nine disciplines. Congratulations to Gage County 4-H members who earned the right to represent Nebraska at the competition: Alex Niedfeldt, Alyssa Wolken, Amber Staroscik, along with Michael Kraus from Holt County. Good luck! Camp RenegadeThis week, June 24-25, Extension staff from Gage, Jefferson and Saline counties are hosting 75 8-10 year olds in an overnight camping experience at Camp Jefferson, Fairbury. The fun includes painting a camp T-shirt, making a marble maze game, GPS, canoeing, nature, spiders, swimming, and shooting sports. Teen counselors will assist with the campers and activities. Operation Military KidsOperation Military Kids, Supporting Nebraskas Military Youth, is a program designed to help parents, family members, teachers, ministers, and others understand the stresses that impact children of deployed military families. We are hosting a program on Tuesday, June 24, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Extension meeting room, 1115 W. Scott, Beatrice. Website: www.nebraskaomk.org County Presentation ContestThe public is invited to the annual competition at the Extension Office, Thursday afternoon, June 26. Prairieland Dairy Fun DayGet the kids and enjoy a day on the farm! Prairieland Dairy invites you to the farm, June 28, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Free lunch, milk and ice cream, petting zoo, Milk Mustache photos, barn tours, face painting, straw maze, corn box and more. Prairieland Dairy is located 4 miles east of Firth and 1 mile north. PASEPremier Animal Science Event (PASE) offers a fun and educational environment for youth to compete, earn awards, and learn about UNL. Competitions include Livestock Judging Contest, Meats Judging Contest, Poultry Judging Contest, Livestock Skill-a-thon, Livestock Quiz Bowl. No Dirt Required - Pressed Flower WorkshopSarah Hobbie, Extension Intern, will help youth use pressed flowers and greens to create original projects on July 2, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Extension meeting room. Crabby Dough WorkshopFew tastes or smells compare to the goodness of fresh baked bread! Ethan Schlueter, Gage County 4-H member, presents a bread workshop just for guys, 4th grade and older, July 7, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Extension meeting room. Learn about bread, taste bread, and shape a crab to take home. Call to register; we have openings. Fashion RevueOne of the most exciting pre-fair activities is the 4-H fashion revue.
